What does being united look like? What is God’s heart regarding unity? Jesus prayed for it, “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:20-23)
I recently received a prayer request and I’d like to share it: “There’s a lady I’ve known forever. She’s very sick. On top of that, she’s being abused by those to whom she has given everything….. Lies about her abound, and seem to come from all sides. Just breaks my heart.
Seems there’s nothing I can do alone but maybe, if we unite and lift her up together in unity, perhaps she will heal. She’s well over 230 years old, but way too young to die. Her name is ‘America’…. And I love her and have always been proud of her. Please read this today and take time to say a prayer for her, today and EVERY day!
“If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
“HEAL our land”. Did you hear that? God promised it! However, we have a part to play too my friends. Together as a family, as a body of Christians we need to change; to be salt and light. Together and unified is exactly what we are not! We are increasingly dispersed as a nation: from within our households, out to our streets, our neighborhoods, our cities and throughout the nation. Look around you – What do you see?
Are you unified in your relationships and in your family? Are you of one accord in your parenting or work ethic? Do you and your managers or colleagues have the same values? Do you and your neighbors share the same values? Do your children have discipline? Do you make family time? Is your priority a bigger house, more money, the next new trend, a new wife, a new husband, a newer face, and thinner thighs? Is there more time at the skating rink, soccer field, or tennis courts, than at the dinner table? Are your “extra curricular” activities no longer “extra” but EXPECTED!?
Vividly, I hear God telling me: WHERE AM “I” in this nation of yours? Start looking inside.
As Christians, we are increasingly disparate as well. There are now over 40,000 denominations worldwide; about 300 in the US. We have ten churches in a small neighborhood offering a piece of something which another does not. We are searching for the “right” preacher, the “right” music, the right body of believers in the pews, and so on. There are church shoppers, and churches marketing their special offerings. All of this disconnect is fodder for the enemy. The statistics below from the Wikipedia United States** site is disheartening:
Main article: Religion in the United States
The United States is officially a secular nation; the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion and forbids the establishment of any religious governance. In a 2002 study, 59% of Americans said that religion played a “very important role in their lives”, a far higher figure than that of any other wealthy nation.[ According to a 2007 survey, 78.4% of adults identified themselves as Christian, down from 86.4% in 1990…. The total reporting non-Christian religions in 2007 was 4.7%, up from 3.3% in 1990. Other religions include Judaism (1.7%), Buddhism (0.7%), Islam (0.6%), Hinduism (0.4%), and Unitarian Universalism (0.3%). The survey also reported that 16.1% of Americans described themselves as agnostic, atheist, or simply having no religion, up from 8.2% in 1990. There are also Baha’i, Wiccan, Druid, Native American, humanist and Deist communities.] Doubt about the existence of a god or gods is growing rapidly among Americans under 30. Polls show that overall American confidence in organized religion is declining,] and that younger Americans in particular are becoming increasingly irreligious.
The percentage of people defining themselves as Christian is down, and those defining as non-Christian is up. Younger Americans are increasingly irreligious and actually, irreverent! It is a sorry and pathetic state of affairs when our young people do not believe, nor have parents to pray for them to believe. Turn on the television! The irreverence is irrevocable.
These are divisive and destructive days my friends. You’ve heard the old adage “divide & conquer,” well it may actually be working! It is time to pull the children of your community together to worship the One and Only God! Pull your families, your neighbors and your villages together. Be the change. Be the role model. Be who God called you to be!
Deuteronomy 31:11-13(MSG) “Moses wrote out this Revelation and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the Chest of the Covenant of God, and to all the leaders of Israel. And he gave these orders: “At the end of every seven years, the Year-All-Debts-Are-Canceled, during the pilgrim Festival of Booths when everyone in Israel comes to appear in the Presence of God, your God, at the place he designates, read out this Revelation to all Israel, with everyone listening. Gather the people together—men, women, children, and the foreigners living among you—so they can listen well, so they may learn to live in holy awe before God, your God, and diligently keep everything in this Revelation. And do this so that their children, who don’t yet know all this, will also listen and learn to live in holy awe before God, you’re God, for as long as you live on the land that you are crossing over the Jordan to possess.”
So please join the rest of Enduring Hope Ministries as we seek the face of God through our prayers and fasting for our Nation. It is time for us to be “United” in all He has called us to do. May God continue to bless and unite you and your families and our great country.
