“If you have understanding, hear this; listen to what I say.” – Job 34:16
If you identified at all with August’s devotional message, you’ll probably agree that knowing the importance of communication is a big thing – especially to women. However, knowing the importance of communication is not enough. Understanding the importance of communication is much more. The understanding part takes the importance to a higher level. Guys, this means that to get this, you must take communication to a higher level. It means that you must think like your woman thinks. For me, that hurts my brain. If you’re a ‘give to me in ten words or less’ person like me, you’re definitely challenged. Here’s another humorous antidote to illustrate this point…A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day – 30,000 to a man’s 5,000. The wife replied, ‘The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men.’ The husband then turned to his wife and asked, “What?” Improving our communication skills with our spouse (or significant other) also benefits our communication skills with Jesus – challenging us to a higher level of understanding. This, in turn, helps us to build a stronger relationship with Him. If we succeed in accomplishing this with both our life partner and our eternal partner, we will live fuller lives here and hereafter.
Hearing, listening and understanding builds strong relationships.
Dear Almighty God of mercy, love and grace, help us to hear, listen and understand Your Word and to build a deeper relationship with You. Help us that everything that we think, say and do will be worthy of You. Help us to remember Lord, that You are our shield, our strength, our portion, our deliverer, our shelter, our strong tower, our very present help in time of need. Help us to live our lives for Your glory as a spiritual act of worship. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
I will hear, listen and understand.
